St Pats FC pledge their support to the IMNDA! Thursday, 17th May 2012
Meeting the Healthcare Needs of People with Disabilities Tuesday, 3rd April 2012
Neurological Alliance of Ireland Lobby Day Thursday, 1st March 2012Having the facility to talk, support each other and share experiences is of huge importance to the MND community. The IMNDA is compiling a list of contacts interested in providing support either by phone, email or through a home visit to those that need help. These people will be our Association Visitors.
The IMNDA will collect the contact data of those interested in acting as a support person for families in their area. In addition, we will provide guidance and ground rules around acting as an Association Visitor along with information and training which will ensure safety and confidentiality for both the visitor and our families.
Association Visitors have a vital part to play in supporting people affected by MND - both those with the disease and those close to them. They offer free and confidential emotional support, and information about the Association’s services. This helps to reduce the sense of isolation many people affected by the disease experience.
What sort of people volunteer as Association Visitors?
- Good listeners who work with sensitivity and understand the need for confidentiality.
- Caring, reliable people from many different walks of life.
- Those who know the importance of having someone to talk to who understands what you are going through.
Association Visitors will need to complete the Garda Vetting process and the IMNDA will assist with and cover the cost of this process.
If you feel you can provide a listening ear or support to someone living with MND, please contact the office on freefone 1800 403 403 or email
with your contact details and we will include you on our new list of Association Visitors. You could make a real difference to a family in your local area. We look forward to hearing from you.
