Discretely Different
Discretely Different, founded by Jenny Reeve, is a new company which started to offer its first garment for sale, the Josie Panty, in September 2008. Within five months the range had grown to include eleven different items.
Discretely Different was started as a result of the founder's friend suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. Seeing the devastating effect this had on her friend, who was so vibrant and loved life, bought home to her the impact living with impaired mobility can have on someone's life.
Jenny feels her many years working within the textile industry, in the fields of bespoke tailoring, garment and fabric technology; enable her to produce quality garments arising from the ideas put forward from people with impaired mobility.
The philosophy behind Discretely Different is not to try to re-invent the wheel, but to listen to people with impaired mobility and make their wishes become a reality. She feels those living with impaired mobility and their carers are the best judges of what they need, not what others who do not live with a particular condition perceive they need!
Each product in the range has been inspired by a person living with impaired mobility, the resulting garment being named after them wherever possible. (In a few instances one person has asked for more than one product, so then an alternative name is given to one of the pieces, but their story remains at the heart of the item.)
Our aim is to provide comfortable, well made and stylish garments for both men and women. As well as solving specific needs, our clothing will be pleasing to the eye.
Each garment is made in the UK and it is hoped customers will appreciate they are getting something which has been made with care, attention to detail and something which is "Discretely Different" to other products offered for people with impaired mobility.
Discretely different aims to exceed customer's expectations in the garments supplied. We also want the garments to make a real difference to the lives of people who have impaired mobility.
In the fullness of time it is hoped that a percentage of any profits will be donated to charity.
One of the testimonials I have received for the Josie Panty says: "I think they are brilliant. I will soon need to use a hoist and then they will be indispensable" - Nicky (an MND Sufferer)
Another testimonial I had from the wife of an MND sufferer for the side opening leisure trousers says; "The trousers are a god send, as dressing is the most tiring thing. With normal trousers we have to roll Wayne from side to side, with these, it is so much easier. All the carers think they are great too."
