Neurological Alliance of Ireland Lobby Day Thursday, 1st March 2012Freewheeling past €7k for Motor Neurone Disease!
Press Release – 20th
October 2011
7 cycling enthusiasts from Galway, Mayo and Roscommon completed a gruelling 109km cycle to raise funds and awareness for the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA).
“Team Freewheelers” was made up of
Adrian, Padraig, Gary, Seamus, Jarlath, Des and David and on the 11th
July they began their cycle of the toughest stage of the Tour de France; the
L’Etape du Tour – Alpe d’Huez.
Preparations and training for this mammoth challenge started early this year as did the fundraising. Numerous events took place in the build up to the cycle including bag packs, table quizzes, church gate collections and an 8km sponsored run in Cong, Co. Mayo. It was all worth it though as the group raised a fantastic €7738.70!!
The proceeds raised will go towards helping people with Motor Neurone Disease; an incurable neurological condition that leaves people unable to do everyday things that the rest of us take for granted, walking, talking and swallowing may become virtually impossible.
The IMNDA is the primary support organisation in Ireland providing care for people with MND, their families and carers
To provide these essential services
the IMNDA depends heavily on fundraising & donations which provide over 75% of overall income.
