Press Release - 15th of December 2011

RTE’s Miriam O’Callaghan, former Presidential Candidate Mary Davis and Westlife Shane Filan's wife Gillian clear out their closets for The Swap Sessions, Sligo

The Swap Sessions is a night of fashion bartering of past and present gems in aid of the Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association on Wednesday 28th December at 8pm. The event is in Shell's Cafe, Strandhill, Sligo and is a must for all fashionistas and bargain-hunters! Fashion donors so far include RTE’s Miriam O’Callaghan, former Presidential Candidate Mary Davis and Westlife Shane Filan’s wife Gillian who have offered outfits for raffle on the night.

Guests are invited to recycle their wardrobes and bring along their unloved clothes which will then be exchanged for tokens, and used to buy forgotten treasures unwanted by others. On the night of the event, fashionistas may purchase, swap or simply donate.Spot prizes on the night include a signed pair of gloves from Sligo Rovers goalkeeper Ciaran Kelly. Guests will also be able to sip on champagne, wine and nibble festive treats while they shop and swap.

The Swap Sessions is now actively seeking donations of quality clothes and/or accessories- if you’re in need of a closet clear out please contact to arrange. Founder of The Swap Sessions, Brónagh Crowley, says “We have received some fantastic donations so far, people have been incredibly generous. It’s essentially guilt free shopping and all the profits will go directly to a great cause, we’re very excited about the night”.

Motor Neurone Disease is a progressive neurological condition that attacks the upper and lower motor neurones. In Ireland, one person dies every five days from this devastating disease. It is a condition that leaves people unable to do the everyday things that the rest of us take for granted. Walking, talking and swallowing may become virtually impossible.MND strikes people across all ages and there is currently no known cure.

The IMNDA is dedicated to providing care for people with MND, their carers and families such as specialised equipment on loan, home visiting by our MND Nurse Specialist and financial assistance towards home help. The association also funds research into the causes and treatments of this debilitating disease.
