Our Second 7 Week Online Programme for Caregivers

25 Mar 2024

The IMNDA has announced a new programme for caregivers that will run this year.

The programme has been designed in the wake of a survey conducted by the IMNDA and MND Scotland which found that the majority of carers of people with MND in Ireland did not feel they were able to take time out to look after themselves while caring for their loved one.

As a direct result of these findings, the IMNDA has designed a self-care programme in tandem with Mary Scarff, Psychotherapist, to help caregivers of people with MND in Ireland develop coping techniques and highlight the counselling services that are available to them.

We are delighted to bring you our second 7 week online programme for Caregivers this April which is funded by The Charlie Bird Development Fund (CBDF).

We will host this 7 week online programme entitled 'Caring for Caregivers- Coping Techniques' which will once again be facilitated by MaryScarff, Psychotherapist.

This online programme will commence on Tuesday 23rd April and will run for 7 weeks up until 4th June. Each session will be from 3pm to 5pm and places will be limited to 12-15 people per session so you must be able to commit to all 7 weeks of the course.

This online programme is designed for family caregivers who are looking after a person living with MND. *Please note the person living with MND must be a registered client of the IMNDA.

Each week Mary will look at the following areas:

  • Anticipatory grief
  • Trauma and anxiety
  • Self-talk
  • Relationships
  • Conflict
  • Sleep
  • Process of change
  • Self-care programme
