The Elephant in the room movement was set up for one reason, to help people talk about "Their elephants" and to have open conversations around what is negatively impacting their mental health. Being given a terminal diagnosis not only affects the person, but also those close to them, their carers, families and communities.
In 2023 Andres Estevez, like our very first Elephant ambassador Charlie Bird, was given the tragic news that he had MND. A proud Irish dad of 2 boys who was born in Argentina, and now a wider member of the Irish rugby community. So when the Puma rugby team was playing in the Aviva last season, ex Leinster player and Coach Felipe Contepomi so kindly had his whole team sign a Pumas elephant for Andres. Both elephants will be proudly on display at next weeks game. So I have set up a go fund me page for Andres, with all proceeds going to the IMNDA, as well as a Gala auction page if any company wants to make a bid on the actual signed rugby elephant. Please if you know of any major Irish company doing business with Argentina or vice versa, can you please share it or repost if you can. If you met Andres, and his loving family you would be inspired by their brave generosity and wonderful attitude. This disease is a real elephant for the many in Ireland that suffer, as well as their loved ones. A terrible disease with little hope or treatment after 150 years. The hope is that this is not an incurable disease in the future, just an underfunded and misunderstood one now.
Lets change that...
