Cathal Deasy Memorial Fundraiser

12 May 2025

This fundraiser is in memory of Cathal Deasy – a great husband, father, son, brother, friend and even greater human being.

Cathal, a native of Kilbrittain in West Cork, sadly passed away in November 2024 after a three-year battle with Motor Neuron Disease (MND). He left behind his wife and three young children, his family in Kilbrittain, and many friends from all aspects of his life, near and far.

In these circumstances, this next phrase might be over-used, but Cathal was truly one of life’s good guys: enthusiastic, humble, sporty, caring, and great craic to be around. With his infectious smile and love for adventure, he was always the life and soul of the party.

Cathal was also a big GAA man. Starting out playing with his home parish of Kilbrittain, later playing schools GAA with Hamilton High School of Bandon and Farrranferris in Cork. Cathal moved to the UK for college and played with Brothers Pearse of Huddersfield before relocating and settling down in Dublin, where he played hurling with Na Fianna. Despite his travels, Cathal always remained a true Rebel, a staunch Cork GAA supporter who proudly wore his Barry’s Tea Cork GAA jersey at any opportunity.

The aim of this weekend is to remember and honour our friend Cathal and raise as much money as possible for two deserving and brilliant charities that helped Cathal and his family throughout his journey with MND.

All money raised over the weekend will go directly to both charities:

The Irish Motor Neurone Disease Association (IMNDA)

Barnardos Children’s Charity Bereavement Services.
